The Intensive Care Unit at Scotland Memorial Hospital accepts patients age eighteen (18) and older with an acute or potentially life-threatening medical and/or surgical condition.
The ICU's recent renovation provides an enlarged space for the nurses' station, doctors' dictation, and staff areas. The unit is now more patient and visitor friendly.
The eight (8) bed unit is jointly managed by Medicine and Nursing. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2, 1:3, or as appropriate. Physician coverage is provided twenty-four (24) hours a day by the medical staff and an all RN staff.
Therapies include thrombolytic drug administration, vasoactive drug administration, dialysis, and ventilator support. Monitoring capabilities include continuous EKG, central venous pressure, pulmonary artery pressure, and arterial pressure and pulse oximetry.
Questions regarding the Intensive Care Unit can be answered by Ryan Mackey, RN, Director, 910-291-7859.
