Access to medical care in the Maxton community just got easier with the addition of Dr. Camille Gardner, a board certified family medicine physician.

Dr. Gardner joins Maxton Family Practice Center in January. She comes to Scotland Health Care System from the Clark Clinic at Ft. Bragg where she was a civilian contractor for the past 2 years. Clark Clinic is the largest primary care clinic in the Department of Defense, with a current medical staff of 15-17 providers. While there Dr. Gardner provided medical care to active military members and their dependants and military retirees.

"I am excited about re-entering private practice," Dr. Gardner stated. "Military medicine is very different from private practice, especially in terms of continuity of care. I am really looking forward to working with the Maxton staff and getting to know the patients there."

Drawn to medicine because of her interest in the sciences, Dr. Gardner originally toyed with the idea of becoming a nurse or physician assistant. "After clerkships with different professionals in the health care field I finally decided to pursue a medical degree," she stated.

Dr. Gardner is originally from Brooklyn, New York, and lived there until she entered Vassar, in Poughkeepsie, New York, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biopsychology. After earning her medical degree from MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine in Pennsylvania. Dr. Gardner completed a residency at St. Vincent Family Practice in Erie, Pennsylvania. She then moved to San Jose, California to complete a one-year obstetrical fellowship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. She particularly enjoys working with adolescents and teen health issues."

"Though I grew up in New York, my parents are from Jamaica and I still have family there," Dr. Gardner continued. "I love to travel and enjoy the Caribbean, especially when I get to visit my family."

While on a medical mission in Ecuador Dr. Gardner met her husband, Carl Beasley, who is on active military duty. Dr. Gardner herself is in the military reserves. The couple has a daughter, Kate, who is 10 years old, and a toy poodle. Dr. Gardner loves to travel, dance, and ride motorcycles.

Appointments are now being accepted at Maxton Family Practice Center. Call 910-844-4077 to schedule today. The practice is located at 1001 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Maxton.
