Scotland Health Care System proudly announces that Dr. Jonathan Rowson, board certified family medicine physician, was elected Chief of Staff by his colleagues at the annual Medical Staff Meeting. His term of office is two years. He succeeds Dr. Paul Rush, who held this position for the past two years.
As Chief of Staff, Dr. Rowson serves as the medical staff's lead representative to the hospital and the community as well as the hospital's representative to the physicians. He will work with the 70 active medical staff physicians and the rest of the hospital's governance system to ensure high quality, safe care and service is provided and to optimize the environment for the practice of medicine.
The Chief of Staff serves on the Scotland Health Care System Board of Trustees and the Hospital's Operating Committee. Dr. Rowson also presides over bi-monthly Medical Staff and monthly Medical Executive Committee meetings.
With an extremely busy medical practice and a very active personal life, Dr. Rowson says that he is learning to adjust his life in order to meet the obligations of Chief of Staff. "I remain committed to my patients in Maxton. Plus, we have several expansion projects coming up at the hospital," he stated. "All this requires a great deal of my time to help the physicians and hospital staff best collaborate as we work through the growth.
As a board certified family medicine physician, Dr. Rowson has provided medical care at Maxton Family Practice Center for the past twelve years. He earned his medical degree from State University of New York, Health Sciences Center at Syracuse and completed a residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
Dr. Rowson and his wife, Annette, have two children. The family resides in Laurinburg.
Following the election and general business, Dr. Rowson assumed his new role and thanked Dr. Rush for his years of service to the medical staff and his outstanding leadership. Rowson commented, "Dr. Rush has done an excellent job as Chief of Staff over the past two years. He is an extremely committed individual who has sacrificed many, many hours with his family in order to provide his leadership skills to our medical staff."
The medical staff also voted Dr. Donna Richardson, board-certified pathologist, as chief of staff elect. If elected, her term as chief of staff begins in 2012. Dr. Stephen Lanuti, board certified general surgeon, was elected secretary of the medical staff.
