Scotland Health Care System gave out its top honor this week, the annual Award of Excellence. This highlight of National Hospital Week is eagerly anticipated by the System's associates.
The Award of Excellence recognizes and rewards the associate who demonstrates service excellence and promotes a compassionate, caring atmosphere to customers and fellow staff members. One hundred and thirty-three associates throughout the Health System were nominated for the prestigious award.
Health Care System President and CEO Greg Wood spoke to over 100 health care system associates on Thursday afternoon in the hospital's cafeteria. Anticipation grew as Wood congratulated the four divisional winners. Each of these associates received a check for $100:
• Administration/Finance: Chris Whittington of Hospice
• Patient Care: Michelle Brown, RN of Third West
• Quality/Regulatory: Tray Willett of the Emergency Center
• Strategic Development: Gloria Hodges, Scotland Health Care Center
A standing ovation was offered as Wood announced Gloria Hodges, of Scotland Health Care Center, a family practice in Bennettsville, as this year's overall Award of Excellence recipient.
"Gloria has been with the health care system since 2001 and is a wonderfully positive person," Wood stated. "After joining the Maxton Family Practice Center as a receptionist, she was later promoted to office manager at Scotland Health Care Center in Bennettsville. Her professionalism is remarkable, her practice standards and systems are exceptional and she is often considered "role model material". Her dedication is extraordinary as evidenced by her commitment to ensure the practice continued to run smoothly while struggling with personal family tragedies."
Mrs. Hodges was presented with a check for $1,000 and an individual plaque. Her name has been added to the Award of Excellence plaque which hangs in the hospital's lobby. As she accepted the award she quietly stated, "I was only doing my job."
Mrs. Hodges lives in Laurinburg. Surprise guests at the award ceremony were her two daughters Angela and Maggie, who proudly hugged their mother.
